I don't know about you all, but I look forward to weaning more than any time of the year here on the ranch. To me, there ain't nothing better than looking down that feed bunk and seeing all those calves just lined out, chowing down on their first ration of starter feed. You think of all the blood, sweat, and tears you put into getting those little pot lickers to be able to take those first bites.

We shipped the yearlings this week. Shipping day for stocker people like us, is what I imagine weaning is like for cow-calf folks. We all get together the night before for a big, hopefully delicious (I say hopefully because I cooked it), meal, then rise early in the morning, saddle in the dark and head up to the pens to meet everyone who will be helping. As soon as we can see we ride out as the sun is rising and begin to gather the cattle...

Jeremy and I just celebrated our third wedding anniversary on September 1, and we spent the day driving back from a horse show. I was thinking that three years doesn’t really give credit to all the challenges we’ve conquered and the fun times we’ve enjoyed.
