On the Road Again by Sara Gugelmeyer

It’s safe to say multitasking is something we do a lot of around here. The cattle operation is our main business but we have a lot of other stuff going on to make it all work. I’ve already told you about our  hunting business.  It works out great because most of the hunting is in the winter when we don’t have any yearlings to look after. The fall is where the overlap occurs. The last two years we’ve taken hunters for the early muzzleloader mule deer season, which is in late September. The problem is we don’t ship calves until mid-September.

Sounds easy enough, except when you consider that Jeremy likes to do a lot of scouting for mule deer before the season actually starts to ensure the best hunt possible for our customers, as well as to make sure we’re harvesting the right bucks to best manage the genetics. To complicate things more, the mule deer hunts are on the ranch in Kansas, and the cattle are in Texas. In case you haven’t got my drift, this time of year we do a lot of driving back and forth. On the bright side of things - up until this week it’s been really hot, and the A/C works great in the pickup.
